TYPE SPECIMEN POSTER (CONCEPT)

TYPE SPECIMEN POSTER.

THE OBJECTIVE.

This was a conceptual type specimen poster meant to showcase one typeface of our choice. I chose Bodoni URW, one of my favorite serif typefaces.

THE PROCESS.

Knowing that Modern Serifs like Bodoni are known for its elegance and classic look, often times used in high fashion magazines and the like, I knew I wanted my composition and colors to contrast that classic feel in order to provide an almost jarring feeling to the viewer to really grab their attention and help them zero in on the beautiful structural details of the type itself. I started by sketching out a few concepts, digitizing those concepts, and then selecting energetic, bright color schemes I felt were the opposite of the more luxurious and subdued neutral-toned settings Bodoni is usually seen in.

THE RESULT.

The final result was a poster featuring the lovely "B" turned on its side in a 3D format, with bright colors and simple shapes to help focus on the content itself. The hierarchy of the composition allows the eye of the viewer to first fall on the large "B," making note of the details of the letter, then slowly make its way down to the shapes holding Bodoni URW's full range of characters and brief body copy about the typeface.

THE ROLE.

I was the sole designer on the project from beginning to end.
